Built for turtle tanks, not just fish tanks

Turtles are not fish with a shell. Their tanks load the water column differently, and almost no aquarium app accounts for it.

A turtle tank is a high-waste, high-filtration system. Aquatic turtles produce far more nitrogenous waste per litre than most fish of the same mass, they shred plants, and they foul filters with shed scutes and food debris. The result is a maintenance rhythm closer to a pond than to a community aquarium.

What actually matters in a turtle tank

  • Nitrate and ammonia — the two readings that tell you whether your filter and your water-change interval are keeping up.
  • Siphoning frequency — debris collects on the bottom, not in the water column, so vacuuming is a scheduled task rather than an occasional one.
  • Water temperature — separate from basking temperature. Both matter; only one is usually written down.
  • Filter cleaning — more often than a fish tank of the same volume, and easy to lose track of.

One log for the whole setup

Record the water change volume, the siphon date, the filter service and the basking bulb change in the same timeline as your test results. When a turtle goes off food, the first question is always “what changed in the last two weeks?” — and this is where you find the answer.

Not a substitute for a reptile vet

Shell softness, swollen eyes, wheezing and lethargy are veterinary problems. The log helps you describe the timeline accurately; it does not diagnose.

Questions

Frequently asked

Does the app cover basking and UVB setup?
You can log bulb changes and note basking temperature alongside water temperature, so a UVB bulb that is past its useful life shows up as a dated event rather than a guess.
Is this only for aquatic turtles?
It is most useful for aquatic and semi-aquatic species with a water volume to manage. Tortoise keepers will find less of it relevant.
